First Action…Then Correction.

Research reveals that decision not implemented within 48 hours are rarely executed.

My friend suggested to me a few months ago to write more often. May be blogs or short notes on LinkedIn or maybe one-liner on Twitter. But I always used to say very soon I will start writing. But I never did.

For some reason, I was waiting for an ideal topic or situation to start with. Though I knew that there is never an ideal situation to start doing something which one must do!

My son a few days back had started exercising. I told him that you should dedicate a fixed time. He immediately replied, let me first start daily, will make the corrections and improve once I start doing it consistently. Essentially, what he was saying is First Action … Then Correction. And it was an instant transformation for me. I realized that even I should start taking immediate actions based on what needs to be done. No more waiting.

I know that I will not write a great piece on my first go. But, most of the work I have done was not good enough in the first go. It takes time to build any skill.

I also realized that this is applicable to every aspect of life. Even in the case of business decisions, we keep learning from our wrong decisions, and if we keep on improving, we eventually make the right decisions.

Few points worth pondering.

1. Appreciation — In case of appreciating the qualities of our near ones, we should not wait for the occasions. One simple message or a call can do wonders for that relationship. In this age of technology, a personal handwritten letter can go a long way in making the relationship deeper and stronger. Even a small one-liner with a personalized message will help to connect more. I remember once I gave a handwritten letter to my mother. She still cherishes the same.

2. Gratitude — Whenever we feel like we should instantly feel grateful for Mata, Pita, Guru, and Dev. And this simple change will bring so much peace. Where ever and whenever we get time, instead of scrolling uselessly on social media, we can close our eyes and recall all the good happenings in the past. This activity has helped me immensely in attracting the right vibrations and a sense of fulfillment.

3. Celebration — Why to wait for an event to celebrate. Celebrate life whenever and wherever possible and also become the cause of celebration. Most of us think that the celebration is a big party. But the fact is that once we start celebrating small things, life will bless us with opportunities to celebrate in a big way often. One of my close friends is always keen on the celebration. Maybe a small tea party. But his liveliness and celebration of life inspire all of us so much to enjoy the journey of life. Now, the celebration has become an integral part of life because of him.

4. Learning — With the internet and mobile in hand, we can start learning new skills instantly. There are so many mediums for creating and consuming the right content. Now, we don’t have to wait for an ideal class or course to learn new things. It is available at our fingertips. If we have a mobile or a laptop with an internet connection, we practically don’t need to wait for anything to learn new things. The only thing perhaps we need is the intention to learn.

So, one of the key transformations in me is that start immediately, once you make the decision and don’t wait for an ideal situation or time.

First Action… Then Correction is my new mantra which I have started implementing!
